Lena's new bed

Yesterday afternoon, I bought Lena a new twin size bed. She was about to outgrow her toddler bed. I'm going to have James stain it this summer to match the rest of her room. I went in later around midnight, to check on her and see how she was doing in her bigger bed. She had so much more room in her bed that I found her sideways! She ended up sleeping quite well through the whole night.

Lena and the fish

March 18 began as a sad day for us. It was the day that my sweet nephew, Connor, was to turn 14 years old. It was sad for us, because Connor died in a car accident on May 28 last year. Connor loved sea life. So, in honor of Connor on his birthday, we bought Lena her first betta fish. It is the sixth betta for James and I, and since we couldn't get Lena to give him a name, he is just named "#6". Lena loves her fish, and other sea life. It's as if her cousin Connor left a part of him with her.

Austin Zoo

Last month, we took Lena to the Austin Zoo. We weren't too impressed with it. We saw more bees than any animal, so we only stayed around to see a few animals. The animals we did see, we felt more like we were at a farm. James fed the llama and goats, but Lena seemed to be unsure of them. She seemed to like seeing the snakes, frog, and turtle the best. I think the next time we take her to a zoo, it will be the San Antonio Zoo. That's a good one!

Great new site!

I found this great new site that I just love! It's called Moms for Modesty. Here is their mission statement:

Moms for Modesty Mission Statement
  • As a Mom for Modesty I believe in common-sense modesty for girls and young women.
  • I believe in refraining from sexualizing our girls and young women.
  • I believe that it is unwise and unfair to taunt boys and young men by permitting my daughter(s) to dress in an immodest manner.
  • I believe that true beauty comes from within and I strive to teach my daughter(s) this truth.
  • I will loyally shop at retailers that provide girls' and young womens clothing that is modest, affordable and stylish.

I know it's hard in today's society to find things that enable us as women and as mothers to dress ourselves and our daughters modestly, but it CAN be done! It's not only about dressing modestly, but teaching our daughters about modestly. I know Lena is only 2, but I am already starting with her in teaching her about modesty. I believe you have to start young. If you believe as I do about teaching our daughters about modesty, then check out the site, and sign their petition.

She's a smart one!

Lena loves to see the monkeys on Disney channel that come on in between shows and introduce the next show. A couple of days ago, Lena kept saying, "I want to see the monkeys." I just told her every time, "Maybe in a little bit." After asking several times to see the monkeys, she finally stopped and decided to play with her toys for a bit. A little bit later on, she came back and kept telling me, "Say please, say please, say please." I had no clue what it was that she was saying this for. I said, "Why are you saying this? What is it that you want?" She just kept repeating, "Say please, say please, say please." Finally I just said, "Please." Lena broke out in a big grin, clapped her hands and said, "Yay! You want to see the monkeys too!" I couldn't help but laugh at her little scheme to get me to turn the monkeys on. She's a smart one!

What time are you?

I saw this in a post on my brother-in-law's blog, and thought I would take the quiz. I am definately what it says, I am an afternoon person, and nowhere near a morning person.

Bob (the tomato)

Right before dinner, I asked Lena what she wanted to eat. She said "Leaves", which is her word for salad. So at dinner, I had a salad and shared some with her. She kept pointing to my salad, so I thought she wanted more "leaves", to which I gave her some. She kept telling me that wasn't what she wanted. Finally, she pointed at my salad and said, "I need Bob." I figured out pretty quickly she meant the tomatoes. She loves to watch Veggie Tales, and for those that aren't familiar with Veggie Tales, the tomato's name is Bob. So, we went to the store after dinner, and I picked up a thing of tomatoes, and Lena goes, "No squishy Bobs." She is such a funny girl, and she keeps us laughing.

Reading to sleep

Yesterday afternoon, I put Lena down for a nap and gave her a few books to look at before going to sleep. I went in to check on her later on and this is what I found. She read herself to sleep.

Valentines Day Pictures

I know, Valentines Day was last week, but I wasn't able to make my computer work to post pictures till today. So, here are some pictures I took of Lena outside of the church building on Valentines Day. My favorite is the middle picture.

Park #1

A couple of weeks ago, I took Lena to a couple of parks near our house, but wasn't able to make my computer work to post pictures till now. Finally!

Lena tried to pick up all the rocks on the way to the slide, because she thought they were in her way. I informed her she didn't need to "clean" the playground. She tried the little slide, and thought it was too little, and then moved on to the big tunnel slide. She absolutely loved going across the bridge, and up to the slide, down and then all over again. We stayed there over an hour. She loves the park.

Park #2

There was a neat playhouse at this park that you could climb in. Lena loved going up and down the stairs and to the lookout at the top. She also loved the swings, sand, and bouncy thing.

Posting pictures

I took Lena to the neighborhood park yesterday, and she loved it. We were there for over an hour. She screamed when I took her to the car. I think I'm going to make this a regular thing. Tomorrow I think I may take her to another nearby park that is a little bigger. I took pictures yesterday at the park, but for some reason, I'm not able to post them on my blog. I'll take more pictures tomorrow at the other park, and then maybe I can post them all together tomorrow (if it's working!) Sometime, I want to take her to the zoo, but James wants to go with us, since it would be Lena's first time at the zoo. I may even try bowling with her sometime this summer. Is there a water park that is around town?
